Designer backpacks for women who carry more

A designer backpack gives you both hands back without giving up the leather and finish of a handbag. Lorenzia's range includes mini leather backpacks that work as a day bag, quilted styles with a chain detail, coated canvas city backpacks with leather trim and larger models that fit a 13-inch laptop. Each is made to the same specification as the boutique version, with the same leathers, hardware and craftspeople, at a price below retail.

Choosing by what you carry

Mini backpacks of around 20 cm high hold a phone, a cardholder, keys and a small cosmetic pouch. Medium backpacks of 28 to 32 cm add room for a tablet, a water bottle and a cardigan. Full-size backpacks of 35 cm and above are the ones to choose for a laptop and a commute. Padded, adjustable straps matter more on the larger sizes.

Leathers and finishes

Grained calfskin is the most scratch-resistant and the easiest to keep clean. Coated canvas is the lightest and copes well with rain. Lambskin backpacks look the most luxurious but are best kept for lighter loads. Hardware is mostly gold-tone, with silver on selected styles.

Keeping a backpack in shape

Do not overfill the bag, and store it stuffed with paper in its dust bag when not in use so the back panel stays flat.
